The Ryerson Rams, a women's volleyball team from Ryerson University in Toronto, chose to spend their holiday break in Agua Prieta, one of the most impoverished towns along the Mexican border, for a week of sports and service.  What they found was an 'experience of a lifetime'; being 'in service' created friendships that transcend politics, conflict, and borders.

Photographer Raechel Running, Dolena Matthews, and Dawn Kish accompanied the team and captured the different aspects of the Rams’ mission: distributing food to the most vulnerable families in the barrio, holding volleyball clinics for young athletes, and building a home for the Valdez family.  This short video, written by Kristin Atwell and narrated by Guardian Warrior Dennis Ford, tells their story.

The Ryerson Rams’ story of service and sport was also featured in the June 2012 issue of Volleyball magazine.
