IMPORTANT: On the weekend of January 18th & 19th, 2014, there was a drug cartel gun battle in Agua Prieta, Sonora, home base to Rancho Feliz’s popular volunteer “Exchange Program”. This article gives the specifics of the incident. No Americans were injured.

This shows us that as long as the United States continues its seemingly insatiable craving for illegal drugs, no place in Mexico is immune from the associated cartel violence. We would like to reiterate that the drug violence is cartel on cartel. To date over 20,000 volunteers have participated in the “Exchange Program” without one incidence of violence. This record continues.

However, we believe the recent news is material to your participation decision. We neither recommend that you participate nor do we not recommend that you participate based on this recent turn of events. The decision and responsibility is yours and we will respect your chosen course of action.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions.

As Americans, it’s easy to take our comfortable lives for granted. However, in Agua Prieta our volunteers discover a world very different from their own. That’s why we built the “Exchange Dormitory”.

Each year, more than 1,000 volunteers stay in the on-site dorm and perform service work in the barrios. Here they feed their souls with purpose and gain a new appreciation for their own fortunate lives. They carry this awareness back across the border to help reweave the moral fabric of our own communities. It’s a profound experience and many return year after year. Since 1987 we have facilitated over 20,000 volunteer visits.

We call this the “Exchange Program”, because countless times we have seen givers become receivers and receivers become givers. We have found that being “in service” has a positive, powerful impact, both on the volunteers and the people they assist. Come join us in Mexico and see for yourself!
